Thomas Levet’s Open hopes sunk by water jump
Thomas Levet today followed Tiger Woods in withdrawing from The Open after fracturing his shin jumping in a lake on Sunday.
The 42-year-old was celebrating victory in his home French Open, but will now have an operation and will be out of golf for six weeks. His place at Royal St George’s next week goes to American Robert Garrigus.
“I am extremely disappointed to miss out on The Open but my specialist has advised me to have an operation on the fracture tomorrow morning,” said Levet, who had to qualify for the Major.
“I will be off for six weeks, which is very bad timing with so many important tournaments coming up.However, the wonderful memory of winning my national Open will definitely keep me going through my recovery.”
Yesterday, three-time Open champion Woods pulled out of the tournament because of leg injuries. Fellow American, Jason Dufner, has taken Woods’s place in the field.
