Whistleblowers meet top refs
DORSET Referees’ Academy members got the opportunity to rub shoulders with their heroes.
The academy attended the National Referees’ Conference as part of their in-service training and as well as receiving coaching from Premier League officials Martin Atkinson and Mike Dean, the young whistleblowers were fortunate enough to be allowed to complete a fitness training session with World Cup final referee Howard Webb.
During the session they were required to complete the fitness plan designed for Webb.
Despite this being a very good test of the young referees’ sprinting and recovery abilities they all thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
At the end of the session, Webb took time to answer many questions on what it was like to officiate the biggest match in the world, and was keen to learn at what level the youngsters were refereeing and what their long-term ambitions were.
This was the latest of a number of DCFA Referee Academy events which have included trips to the Umbro International Cup in Manchester, The Cup Denmark in Copenhagen, and two opportunities for Dorset referees to attend the world renowned Dallas Cup in Texas.
Anyone interested in refereeing should contact Kevin Pike at the DCFA on 01202 688270 Referee courses are taking place next month.
