Roundup: Dodgers put Twins to the sword

Dodgers 15, Twins 0

MINNEAPOLIS — Matt Kemp had four hits, including his NL-leading 22nd home run, and the Los Angeles Dodgers routed skidding Minnesota 15-0 on Monday night.

The Dodgers filed for bankruptcy protection in a Delaware court Monday, blaming Major League Baseball for refusing to approve a multibillion-dollar TV deal that owner Frank McCourt was counting on to keep the troubled franchise afloat.

Chad Billingsley (7-6) combined with three relievers on Los Angeles’ seventh shutout of the season. Casey Blake had a home run among his three hits for the Dodgers.

Billingsley allowed four hits and struck out four in six innings to win his second straight interleague start. The Dodgers set season highs for runs and hits (25).

Minnesota starter Nick Blackburn (6-6) lasted 4 1-3 innings, allowing eight runs — seven earned — and 13 hits as the Twins lost their sixth straight.

Indians 5, Diamondbacks 4

PHOENIX — Orlando Cabrera homered off closer J.J. Putz with two outs in the ninth inning to give Cleveland a 5-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night, snapping the Indians’ three-game skid.

Cabrera, who entered the game in the seventh inning in a double switch, just cleared the fence in left field after Arizona had tied it on Kelly Johnson’s RBI triple in the eighth. Lonnie Chisenhall, considered the Indians’ top minor league prospect, doubled, then singled in a run in his major league debut.

Putz (4-3) got Chisenhall and Lou Marson to fly out before giving up the home run on a 1-0 pitch. Rafael Perez (3-1) struck out the only batter he faced in the eighth to get the victory. Chris Perez threw a scoreless ninth for his 19th save in 20 opportunities.

Reds 5, Rays 0

ST. PETERSBURG — Jonny Gomes homered and Mike Leake pitched six strong innings for Cincinnati.

Gomes, the former Rays’ outfielder playing at Tropicana Field for the first time since becoming a free agent after the 2008 season, hit a solo shot during a two-run fourth that made it 4-0. Brandon Phillips, who had four hits and two RBIs, added a run-scoring single off Jeremy Hellickson (7-7) later in the inning.

Leake (7-4) scattered four hits, walked two and had three strikeouts in ending a personal two-start losing streak.

Sam LeCure worked two innings before Nick Masset pitched the ninth to complete the six-hitter.

Hellickson lost his fourth consecutive start, giving up four runs and eight hits in six innings. Over the right-hander’s skid, Tampa Bay has been outscored 20-1.

Cubs 7, Rockies 3

CHICAGO — Carlos Pena and Aramis Ramirez each homered twice to lead Chicago.

Ramirez hit a two-run homer in the first inning, doubled and scored in the fifth and homered leading off the seventh. It was his 24th career multihomer gamer.

Pena homered leading off the fourth and added a two-run shot in the fifth for his 20th career multihomer game. Pena and Ramirez both drove in three runs.

Cubs starter Matt Garza (4-6) went 7 1-3 innings, allowing three runs and five hits. He struck out six and did not issue a walk.

Rockies starter Jhoulys Chacin (8-5) lost for the first time in four decisions, allowing season highs with six runs, nine hits, three homers and seven extra-base hits in five innings.

Carlos Gonzalez homered twice for the Rockies and Todd Helton added a run-scoring single.
