Metrodome rises again Wednesday morning

St. Paul, Minn. Metrodome officials say stadium’s fallen roof will be reinflated Wednesday morning.

The roof collapsed when a blizzard deflated it on December 12 last year. The damage forced the Minnesota Vikings to play their last two home games in Detroit and at TCF Bank Stadium.

Minneapolis city inspectors examined the repair work gave the OK, said Bill Lester, executive director of Metropolitan Sports Facility Commission. The roof will be inflated at 7 a.m.

“Weather conditions permitting, but it looks very positive,” Lester said.

“It’ll take between two and three hours. It’s a vast amount of space. But we have 20 one-hundred horsepower motors, fans.”

A record-setting blizzard tore open a panel on the side of the stadium December 12 last year. The roof deflated as accumulated snow tore through at least two other panels.

Repair workers tore down more than 100 intact panels remaining. The roof has 106 new fiberglass and Teflon roof sections. Nearly all of the repair cost of more than $20 million is covered by insurance.

The Vikings will be back to play in their first home game back in the Metrodome August 27th. They’re scheduled to play at least one more season in Dome.
