Fantasy is set to continue
THE Wessex Fantasy Football fundraising venture will be continuing next season.
Once again its main task will be to raise additional money for Weymouth FC’s playing budget, thus helping boss Brendon King as he attempts to build a squad for the new term.
Like last season, WFF will again cost £10 a month to play with £2 going into the prize fund and the remaining £8 going into the Terras’ playing budget.
The initiative helped raise almost £10,000 towards the club’s budget last campaign.
WFF founder Ian White said: “We believe that we can better this figure and to begin with our task is to get 200 fans/businesses to pledge £10 a month each and that will give us a starting monthly fund of £2,000.
“Of course you will be able to give more than £10 each month, but again like last season the key to the WFF is commitment and the wilingness to keep your money coming in.
“As always the six-man WFF committee will be protecting your hard earned money very carefully and no money will be released to WFC until the 2011/12 season starts. However, the manager will be given regular updates.
“Unlike last season we want to be able to start the season running and therefore we have decided to have a six-week pledge period to try and give us, the WFF committee, some idea of how much money we can raise each month through the season to help Brendon and WFC.
“The committee have decided to follow a new route with the actual use of the money this season. We have decided to follow the club’s lead with the sponsorship of Warren Byerley.
“Once we are clear on how much money we will be bringing in each month we will select a certain number of players and we will cover these players’ wages for the whole of the season.
“That will take the pressure of Brendon’s very small player budget and give him the chance to obtain more players as they are needed.
“So the more money we raise the more players we can sponsor and the better quality squad Brendon can obtain.”

The Terras return for pre-season training on Tuesday evening.
