Batista struck by Orioles’ pitch
There was a scary moment in the Toronto Blue Jays game at Rogers Centre on Tuesday night when star slugger Jose Bautista was struck in the head by Baltimore Orioles pitcher Jake Arrieta.
It occurred in the third inning where Arrieta’s pitch appeared to strike the Major League’s home run leader in the left ear flap of his helmet, sending him crashing to the ground in the batter’s box.
The crowd let out an anguished roar as Bautista hit the dirt.
With manager John Farrell and trainer George Poulis at his side, Bautista made his way to his knees for a few moments as he was being checked over.
Farrell then pulled Bautista from the game, signalling for John McDonald to enter as a pinch runner.
Bautista made his way off the field on his own power.
