“Every year, we have a huge family reunion after Thanksgiving and go to the Ohio State-Michigan game,” she said.

So be sure to look for her in 2013 in Ann Arbor.

IF Ireland are heading to Paris with a deep sense of injustice at the manner of Sunday’s defeat by Wales, they are determined to keep it private.

The disciplinary hearing convened yesterday to examine Stephen Ferris’ final-minute tackle on Ian Evans concluded the incident should not have incurred a penalty, never mind the yellow card or citing that followed.

It was a pivotal call by referee Wayne Barnes as Leigh Halfpenny steered the penalty between the uprights to snatch a last-gasp 23-21 victory for Wales.

The repercussions for Ireland are considerable as they now head to Paris – where they have prevailed just once since 1972 – desperate to rescue their Six Nations.

They may have been robbed of a momentum-building win by Barnes’ decision, but coach Declan Kidney today refused to condemn the official.

“We’re within 48 hours of another match.

There is hope that an active ingredient found in magic mushrooms, psilocybin, could be used to help with the treatment of depression.

Two scientific studies published this week show how activity in certain parts of the brain is subdued by an ingredient found in magic mushrooms, psilocybin. Results from both studies conclude that people exposed to psilocybin have clearer memories, which may provide an insight into the effects of psychedelic drugs on the brain.

Lead author for both of the studies was Professor David Nutt, from Imperial College London.

Harry Redknapp has reassured Steven Pienaar and the rest of his fringe players that they can break into the Tottenham first-team in the second half of the season.

Tottenham face Everton at White Hart Lane on Wednesday knowing a victory will put them level with second-placed Manchester United and three points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City.

Redknapp is likely to recall the likes of Rafael van der Vaart, Luka Modric and Gareth Bale after resting them for Saturday’s 3-0 FA Cup win over Cheltenham.

That could mean a return to the bench for Pienaar, who has started just five league games for Spurs and been linked with a return to Everton on loan, but Redknapp has told the 29-year-old that he can still force his way into his first-team plans.

“Players like Pienaar and (Niko) Kranjcar are good players and they can get in the team,” Redknapp said.

Four years after trading Carlos Quentin from Arizona to the Chicago White Sox, new Padres general manager Josh Byrnes is bringing the All-Star outfielder back to San Diego.

Byrnes acquired Quentin from the White Sox for two prospects on Saturday.

The trade is expected to bolster San Diego’s anemic offense. Quentin has four consecutive 20-homer seasons, including 36 in 2008. He will play leftfield.

The White Sox received minor league pitchers Simon Castro, a right-hander, and Pedro Hernandez, a left-hander.

While GM of the Diamondbacks, Byrnes traded Quentin to the White Sox for first baseman Chris Carter in December 2007.

Quentin, 29, hit .254 with 24 home runs, a career-high 31 doubles and 77 RBIs in 118 games in 2011, when he made his second All-Star team.

More baseball: The Blue Jays agreed to a minor league contract with left-hander Aaron Laffey and invited him to spring training.

SILVIO Berlusconi believes AC Milan would provide the perfect environment for Carlos Tevez to relaunch his career.

The Rossoneri have made no secret of their admiration for the Argentina striker, who is currently back in South America after a dispute with Manchester City which centres around his conduct during the Champions League loss at Bayern Munich in September.

Paris St Germain have also been linked but Milan owner Berlusconi has urged the 27-year-old to put footballing reasons at the top of his agenda as he seeks a new club.

“If he comes with us, he will win the Golden Ball award,” Berlusconi told the Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper. “Tevez has two options, one which regards prestige and the other one money.

The Max Planck Institute in Leipzig have surveyed 109 resource management areas in Africa for twenty years to reach profoundly disturbing conclusions. The future of our nearest relatives is in doubt. In order to literally combat (in some cases) the decline of the Great Apes, it is now necessary to quantify the effects of every conservation measure. In that way, we can use resources to their best effect. The four different types of conservation are law enforcement guards; tourism; research and non-governmental organisations.

In 16 countries throughout the continent, prolonged conservation measures do decrease the probability of ape extinction.

Alan Hutton insists he will be fully focused on his job when Ashley Young returns to Villa Park in a Manchester United shirt.

Young is making his first appearance at his former club following his summer exit, and Villa defender Hutton only has thoughts of trying to stop the tricky winger.

The 27-year-old admits he’s had a tough time of late after attempting to combat Gareth Bale for Alex McLeish’s side, while earlier in the season, the Scotland international went toe-to-toe with Brazil’s wonderkid Neymar and then Spain’s David Villa.

Hutton regards the England midfielder in the same class as Neymar and Villa, telling The Sun: “I suspect I’m going to walk off the pitch mentally and physically shattered.

“I’ve played against Ashley before and he’s one of those wingers who can give you real problems.

Manchester City insist they will not allow Carlos Tevez to leave on the cheap despite his present absence from the club.

With the impasse over Tevez’s future no nearer to being resolved, Press Association Sport understands the striker’s long-time advisor Kia Joorabchian has spoken with AC Milan about a possible move for the player.

The Serie A giants, who have confirmed their place in the Champions League knockout round despite losing to Barcelona in the San Siro, are one of the few clubs in the world who could afford Tevez.

Given City manager Roberto Mancini has twice stated publicly that, as far as he is concerned, the player has no future with the Blues, it would hardly be a surprise that Joorabchian was discussing Tevez with potential suitors.

Indeed, the Premier League leaders are relaxed about that situation, acknowledging such goings on are hardly exclusive to Tevez.

One of Michigan coach John Beilein’s major concerns in the exhibition was the lack of a frontcourt presence from Jon Horford, who started at center, Jordan Morgan and Evan Smotrycz.

Part of the issue was Morgan’s adjustment to coming off the bench after starting most of last season. He was 0-for-1 from the field in 18 minutes. Smotrycz was 0-for-5 in 23 minutes.

“Some technique from the summertime, they let get away. (They need to be) playing bigger,” Beilein said. “All of them, whether it was nerves, excitement, I didn’t know. Read more…

QPR manager Neil Warnock believes Chelsea fans who taunted Anton Ferdinand in midweek are indicative of a culture of hatred in football which is difficult to police.

Blues supporters chanted “Anton Ferdinand, you know what you are” at the QPR defender during the 1-1 Champions League draw at Genk.

Chelsea have pledged to root out and punish the offenders.

The chants appeared to represent a show of support for Blues captain John Terry, who is under police investigation over allegations he racially abused Ferdinand during last month’s west London derby, something he denies.

Warnock, however, holds little hope that the matter will be resolved and accepts the taunts as a fact of modern life.

“I’ve only read about the abusive chants, but I’m afraid in today’s society nothing surprises me,” he said.

“You see what happens when Liverpool play United, the abuse that managers get. Read more…

In a recent conversation, one of my friends – let’s call him X – argued that we waste too much money in pointless scientific studies. I mean – he said – who cares what killed the dinosaurs? They have been dead for a long time, period.

My friend X is wrong, and here’s an example why:

About 70 million years ago, the Earth was going through a greenhouse phase otherwise known as the Late Cretaceous Epoch. (This was back when mammals were tiny creatures scurrying around, trying not to get trampled by huge reptiles, and some five million years before a meteorite slammed down on our planet and caused a mass extinction.) There was a lot of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and the resulting extra warmth was distributed all over the planet, in ways which scientists still don’t clearly understand.

Luke Donald’s hopes of winning the US Money List title are slipping away after he plummeted down the leaderboard at the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic.

The English world number one needs at least a top-two finish in the season’s final event on Sunday and looked on course to achieve that after sharing the first-round lead with an opening 66 on the Palm Course at Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

(US unless stated)-12 J Leonard-12 B Kim (Kor)-12 H Stenson (Swe)-10 N O’Hern (Aus)-9 M Allen-9 M Bettencourt-9 G Woodland

But he struggled round the Magnolia Course on day two, carding a one-under 71 to lie five shots off the halfway pace.

That is set by former Open champion Justin Leonard, Korean youngster Bio Kim and Swede Henrik Stenson.

Leonard shot a best-of-the week nine-under 63 over the easier Palm course, while the 21-year-old Kim is also 12-under-par for the tournament after a 65 on the Magnolia lay-out.

Superb Wales fall agonisingly short Warburton: Tackle was not malicious Hernandez snatches point for United City romp to Villa win Blues claim comfortable Everton win Trotters too much for Latics Hamilton breaks Red Bull dominance Murray to face Ferrer in final Frankel blitzes QEII field <fb:like href="http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard-sport/article-23998546-clverly-edges-past-bellew.do" layout="button_count" show_faces="false" action="recommend" font="tahoma" id="fb-like"></fb:like> <g:plusone size="medium" count="true" href="http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard-sport/article-23998546-clverly-edges-past-bellew.do"></g:plusone>

Nathan Cleverly retained his WBO light-heavyweight title with a majority decision victory over Tony Bellew after an action-packed 12 rounds at the Echo Arena in Liverpool.

The Welshman’s classier work shaded him 117-112, 116-113, 114-114 verdicts on the three judges’ cards and although it was met by jeers from Bellew’s home fans it was the right decision.

Cleverly, who improved his unbeaten record to 23 straight wins, landed the best work up close and although the challenger gave as good as he got through many of the middle rounds he just came up short.

It was an excellent win for Cleverly, who had showed signs of relishing the feverish atmosphere from the moment he danced around the ring during the fighters’ introductions, antagonising the pro-Bellew fans.

Bellew had done his bit to whip up the hysteria within seconds of the first bell, appearing to aim a head-butt at Cleverly which incurred a long lecture from furious referee Richie Davies.

CERN and the LNGS laboratory in Gran Sasso, Italy, has announced news of Einsteinian importance. The old man’s well-loved theory has been between a rock and a hard place recently and relativity could now be less of a fact than we thought. While the speed of light is accurately measured at 299,792,458 metres per sec (700 million mph) neutrinos have just been policed at an unexpected higher rate over a 450 mile test.

While the rate is a mere 60 nanoseconds faster, the incredible fact is that the speed difference is actually 12,000 mph! The Standard Model (the current basic law of physics) is threatened, even though the speed did seem to be only very slightly exceeded.

However, the sanity of scientists may not be threatened at all.
