St. Paul, Minn. The number of injuries and property damage caused by fireworks has declined in Minnesota.
But, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety says even one fireworks mishap is too many. Annual statistics collected from Minnesota hospitals and fire departments from June 25 through July 15 show the number of injuries has dropped from 111 in 2004 to 57 injuries in 2009. And property damage numbers have declined during that time from about $4,000 to $1,500.
State fire marshal Jerry Rosendahl says there are a couple things to keep in mind in order to continue to bring down those statistics. If it flies or explodes, the fireworks are illegal in Minnesota.
If the bad days have a hierarchy, Westmeath features high. Their last true embarrassment in the province. Some games seize you up and spit you out and that one in Portlaoise just lent ballast to the standard repertoire of Dublin’s story.
In a deluge that had people scanning the horizon for Noah and his Arc, Westmeath wanted it more.
Dublin were too big for their boots.
On Thursday night, Kevin Flynn sat out on the balcony of his Milwaukee apartment, the mercury in the high 20s and ran his fingers through the memory. It was five years, one month and nine days distant now. Fragment of another lifetime.
“They wouldn’t let horses run in The Curragh that day, but they said it was okay for us to hurl,” chuckled Flynn.

Smith’s playing time over the past few months has been severely restricted by an operation on a twisted bowel last year and he admits he entered local final qualifying only because of the proximity of the events.
However, he was not hampered by having to borrow a set of clubs from a member at Maidstone’s Tudor Park golf club, where he is attached, because his irons did not comply with new regulations as he topped the rain-delayed 36-hole qualifier at Littlestone with a four-under total of 138.

Anything boys can do…
Izzy Beisiegel is determined to do just as well – or better.
The Quebec native played her inaugural round Thursday on the Canadian Tour, five weeks after becoming the first woman to earn status on a men’s professional tour.
And despite a 7-over 78, she wasn’t disappointed.
“Oh, yes ” I was nervous,” Beisiegel said with a smile. “But I had fun, and I can’t be disappointed. I really enjoyed it, and you always want to keep proper perspective. It’s not (a life or death situation), so it would be ridiculous to be upset about it.”
Her initial test was a success — a birdie on the par-4, 320-yard first hole of Bearspaw Country Club.
